December 6, 2017 Her Story: A Jazz Journey premieres at the Capital BlueCross Theatre

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, Central Penn College professor Maria Thiaw and director of education for the Harrisburg Symphony Mark Hunsberger (shown above) presented “Her Story: A Jazz Journey” at the Capital BlueCross Theatre. The performance featured the combination of Thiaw’s spoken word poetry and historically relevant jazz selections. Five poems from Thiaw’s book “Reclaiming My Time," which chronicles the stories and experiences of women during the civil rights movement, were featured. Hunsberger also provided historical context to the musical selections.

Thiaw and Hunsberger will join forces again in March to provide a full-fledged production of “Reclaiming My Time.” The theatrical production will feature an ensemble of actors who will physically bring to life the struggles and victories of the civil rights movement. The production will run March 8-11 at the Capital BlueCross Theatre on Central Penn College’s campus.
