Homeland Security Management

Bachelor's Degree

When you think about studying Homeland Security Management, what comes to mind?  At Central Penn College, our Bachelor of Science degree in Homeland Security Management (HSM) program combines elements of law enforcement, infrastructure security, organizational behavior, emergency management, leadership and intelligence analysis – providing students with a broad understanding of these fields and their interaction with Homeland Security. Students are provided with the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-world hands-on learning from professors with experience at the federal, state and local law enforcement levels.

Through interactive lessons, field trips and a collaborative learning environment, students gain a thorough understanding of relevant bodies of law, critical incident response, police-community relations, and how private and public entities interact and prepare for emergencies and related crisis events. Students will also learn how communicate effectively through written and oral communication, correlating these concepts effectively within diverse work environments. Professional and ethical conduct is a key part of the program’s philosophy.

At Central Penn, our accelerated terms allow you to earn your bachelor’s degree in just three years, plus an internship.* With that time frame, you can be out of the classroom and into your desired career in less time than you thought.

Due to the sensitive nature of this field, only students who are capable of passing a governmental background investigation and obtain a governmental security clearance should consider enrolling in the Homeland Security Management degree program.

Admissions Requirements

In addition to Central Penn's standard admissions requirements, a personal and professional background investigation is a required component of virtually all federal, state, and local agencies offering internships or employment to graduates of the Homeland Security Management degree program.

Only those persons who are capable of passing a governmental background investigation and would otherwise be eligible for a governmental security clearance should consider enrolling in a Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Administration, or Homeland Security Management degree program.

Individuals who enter these degree programs with a disqualifying personal or professional history or for those who engage in a disqualifying activity while attending Central Penn may be precluded from obtaining an internship or employment in the career field after graduation.

Internship/Capstone Course

As a career-oriented college and in addition to our hands-on curriculum, Central Penn requires all students to complete an internship. This opportunity allows students to participate and experience their future careers in the real world. Internships are 180 hours in length and include a research project tailored to the individual's career path.

Continuing education and online students may complete a capstone course in place of the traditional internship. This can be done at both the associate and bachelor’s degree level. This course requires an extensive research project and paper related to the student’s chosen career path.
