At Central Penn College

Message from the Dean’s Office

Welcome to the School of Professional Studies at Central Penn College, where career-minded students can develop the skills needed to enter a wide variety of fields and professions.

We welcome your interest, whether you are a prospective first-time college student, a transfer or returning student looking to complete a professional degree, or an already-working professional desiring career advancement. We are especially proud of our commitment to serving first-generation college students, working adults and military veterans.

The School of Professional Studies has entered an exciting period of transition. While we seek to preserve the finest traditions of Central Penn College’s more than 130 years of career-focused education, the School of Professional Studies is also partnering with the other academic schools to help innovate the college’s mission and identity in response to emerging developments in the career fields we serve. As a result, the School of Professional studies remains committed to developing the professional competencies of our students, while at the same time arming them with the critical thinking and communication skills needed to attain the highest levels of professional achievement.

The balance we strike between career and academic competencies has produced highly competitive graduates; alumni of the School of Professional Studies are employed by such companies and organizations as the U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command, the Arizona State Department of Child Safety, the City Controller's Office of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia City Council, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Hershey Entertainment and numerous law firms throughout Central Pennsylvania.

Our professional studies faculty have achieved notable success in a variety of professional fields outside academia, and they help foster student success by adapting into their classrooms an impressive array of experience garnered from such agencies and organizations as the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, the Pennsylvania Office of Inspector General, the Pennsylvania State Ethics Committee, the YWCA Greater Harrisburg Domestic Violence Legal Center, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, American Association of Fraud Examiners, the National Association of Black Accountants, Merrill Lynch, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the International Society for Preparedness, Resilienceand Security. Our faculty also have contributed to the scholarship of professional studies, authoring numerous textbooks (on paralegal aims and methods, constitutional law, administrative law and evidence) as well as refereed journal articles (on topics ranging from the ethics of accounting pedagogies to prominent legal issues).

The student-centered faculty of the School of Professional Studies nurture an academic environment in which students can pre-professionalize according to the highest standards of their chosen fields while at the same time experiencing new ideas and discovering their own capacities.

I encourage you to explore more closely what the School of Professional Studies has to offer you and to let us welcome you into our dedicated community of practitioners.

Please accept my heartiest congratulations for taking this exciting next step in your own evolving professional identity.
