Grants

Grants are monetary awards that the student is not required to repay. The following grants are available for qualifying Central Penn students.

Federal PELL Grant

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Need-based as determined by the federal government
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Cannot already have a bachelor degree
  • May be eligible with as few as three credits

Amount:

  • $4050 maximum annually (2006-2007)

Repayment:

  • None

Application Procedure:

  • Must complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Must complete Central Penn Financial Aid Form
  • Encouraged to apply as soon as possible after January 1 of each year

Deadline:

  • The deadline is March 15, for maximum aid consideration (example: March 15, 2007 for 2007-2008; 2007-08 financial aid year consists of summer 2007, fall 2007, winter 2008, and spring 2008)
  • Federal deadline is June 30 of the following year that you are applying for aid for (example: June 30, 2008 for 2007-2008)

Requirements for maintaining eligibility:

  • Student must comply with our Financial Aid Academic Progress Policy
  • Remain enrolled in classes

Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) Grant

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Need-based as determined by the state agency
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Cannot already have a bachelor degree
  • Must be Pennsylvania resident
  • Must be enrolled and have at least 4 credits

Amount:

  • $4200 maximum annually (2006-2007)

Repayment:

  • None

Application Procedure:

  • Must complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Must complete Central Penn Financial Aid Form
  • Encouraged to apply as soon as possible after January 1 of each year
  • Must return PHEAA Status Notice Form (this is mailed to the student once the FAFSA form is completed)

Deadline:

  • State Agencies deadline is May 1 of each year (example: May 1, 2007 for 2007-2008)

Requirements for maintaining eligibility:

  • Student must successfully complete a minimum of 24 credits at the end of three quarters for full time students to receive grant for subsequent year
  • Remain enrolled in classes

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Need-based as determined by the federal government
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Cannot already have a bachelor degree
  • Meet Central Penn's priority deadline for the FAFSA
  • Pell Grant eligible
  • Awarded on a first-come, first-served basis

Amount:

  • $2000 maximum annually (2007-2008)

Repayment:

  • None

Application Procedure:

  • Must complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Must complete Central Penn Financial Aid Form

Deadline:

  • The deadline is March 15 for maximum aid consideration (example: March 15, 2007 for 2007-2008; 2007-08 financial aid year consists of summer 2007, fall 2007, winter 2008, and spring 2008)

Requirements for maintaining eligibility:

  • Student must comply with our Financial Aid Academic Progress Policy
  • Remain enrolled in classes

ACG (Academic Competitiveness Grant)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be US citizen
  • Pell grant recipient
  • Considered 1 st or 2 nd year student
  • Passed rigorous high school program
  • Graduated high school after 1/1/2005
  • Full time enrollment

Amount:

  • 1st year student $750/academic year
  • 2nd year student $1,300/academic year

Repayment:

None

Application Procedure:

  • Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Complete Central Penn Financial Aid Form

Deadline:

Encouraged to complete FAFSA any time after January 1.

Requirements for maintaining eligibility:

  • Must remain full time
  • Must have 3.00 CUM GPA at end of year one to qualify for year two
  • Must pass 36 credits in three terms to advance to 2nd year

SMART (National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be US citizen
  • Pell grant recipient
  • Considered 3rd or 4th year student
  • Cum GPA 3.00
  • Enrolled in IT major
  • Full time enrollment

Amount:

  • 3rd year student $4,000/academic year
  • 4th year student $4,000/academic year

Repayment:

None

Application Procedure:

  • Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Complete Central Penn Financial Aid Form

Deadline:

Encouraged to complete FAFSA any time after January 1.

Requirements for maintaining eligibility:

  • Must remain full time
  • Must pass 36 credits in three terms to advance to 4th year
  • Must maintain CUM 3.00 GPA each term
