Teaching Philosophy

I enjoy having the opportunity to unlock the potential that lies in all of my students. I am able to utilize my skills as a therapist in the academic setting with students who have a common desire for helping others through a career-oriented educational experience. My favorite aspect of teaching is that I am able to participate in the growth and development of future healthcare professionals. I take pride in being able to share my clinical expertise by integrating research and practical skills into the classroom experience. I am a very hands-on kinesthetic learner and I like to bring that into the classroom. My courses are designed to provide the students with information through lecture, discussions, case studies and presentations immediately followed by hands-on experiences in the laboratory. The students are presented with knowledge of disease processes, pathologies, treatments and techniques commonly seen in the clinic and then perform assessment and treatment techniques within the laboratory. I feel it is imperative for students to be able to perfect their clinical skills in the laboratory before entering their clinical component of their educational experience.

Bio

Dr. Krista Wolfe is the dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. A licensed athletic trainer and physical therapist, Wolfe has a passion for helping others. For more than a decade, she worked full-time in an outpatient physical therapy clinic specializing in women’s health, vestibular rehabilitation and lymphedema management. To stay up-to-date in her field, she continues to work as a physical therapist on an as-needed basis in an outpatient clinic. Wolfe joined Central Penn College in 2006 as the director of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program, a position she held until 2014. She was then promoted to the dean of the School of Health Sciences and began to split her time between an administration role and teaching within the PTA program. “I am very passionate about the field of physical therapy and love every minute I am in the classroom,” says Wolfe. “Sharing my knowledge of physical therapy with others is what drives me.” Wolfe serves as co-chair for the college’s Middle States Commission on Higher Education Self Study Committee for re-accreditation. In addition, she’s involved in several professional organizations, including the State Boards of Physical Therapy. She is a chair for the Exam Development Committee for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT). This committee is responsible for the development of the National Licensure Examination for Physical Therapist Assistants. She serves as a manuscript reviewer for two publishing companies and as a consultant to developing programs. She enjoys teaching, helping others and spending time with family and friends. “Some of my favorite memories are floating down the Yellow Breaches, attending country music concerts, running races, sitting by campfires with friends and spending time with my family at sporting events,” says Wolfe. “Life is short... live it to the fullest!”
