Teaching Philosophy

As a professor in the PTA program, I see my job as preparing students to be competent clinicians who will successfully pass a national board exam. To accomplish this, I have found that the more active students are in class, the more they learn. Class activities include reviewing case studies, having actual patients visit class, and practicing new techniques on classmates––these all provide opportunities for active learning, which facilitates recall of prior knowledge. I also feel that adult learners are unique… they have other things going on in their lives and I want to show that we understand how valuable their time is. All class exercises and activities must be purposeful and goal-oriented.

Bio

Eberly is the lead instructor for the PTA program at Central Penn College’s Lancaster Center. She teaches a majority of the PTA courses, advising and mentoring students in the program … participating in recruitment activities such as open houses … serving on college-wide committees including the Policy Committee and Advising Committee for the PTA program … and assisting the director of the program with any related assignments or reports.

Eberly continues to work in the field as a homecare physical therapist for a local hospital. She enjoys reading and recently co-authored an article with a former student that was published in a national physical therapy journal.
