Men's Basketball

The Central Penn men’s basketball team enters the 2012-13 campaign with hopes to keep the momentum going from the 2011-12 season.
Last year the Knights bowed out in the elite 8 of the USCAA national tournament to Berkely College of NY. The Knights entered the tournament as the top seed and earned a first round bye but ran into a very skilled and athletic Berkely team. That game was followed up by a consolation round win against Penn State Dubois. Coach Baker said “Coming back the next day and displaying the character we did, really sets the tone for next year. The USCAA event was a learning experience and gives us a goal to work towards.”
The Knights have a core group of players returning from the 19-10 squad which include Senior Montez Lacy and Sophomore Devon Dorsey. Replacing Antoinne Brown, Central Penn's third 1,000 point scorer, will be difficult. Baker says “Antoinne gave us a stabilizing force on the floor because he was an experienced Senior. His leadership will be truly missed.” Other key players like Nicholas Branam and Michael Blackmon will be missed but it creates opportunity for others to step up. Baker states “I am proud of the steps we took last year on the court but our biggest achievement was having two academic All-Americans (Branam and Quinn Wetherall). This year we hope to exceed our efforts on the court as well as off.” “Our schedule is the most difficult one to date with three Division I teams (VMI, Radford, Longwood), PSAC powers Clarion and Mansfield, Buffalo State, Kings College tournament and a host of USCAA league games.” “We have the reputation of playing anyone in any venue.”
The season should be an exciting one and the support of Knight Nation is needed!!
The Knights have announced The Wounded Warrior Project as their charity of choice this season. The team will help raise funds to support WWP and will make a presentation at the end of the season.
