Margaret Schachte, MLS

Library Director

Teaching Philosophy

As a librarian my job is to connect people with information. I believe everyone has their own interests and things they want to investigate. I support the library user’s own curiosity by providing materials, connecting them with information, and acting as a sounding board for questions and ideas. I support and encourage exploration of whatever the user finds interesting at the time, and I share in their excitement as they discover new information.

Margaret Schachte is the Library Director at Central Penn College. She has worked in libraries since 2016 serving as Director of the Ashland Public Library from 2018 – 2021 and Interim Director of the Shenandoah Area Public Library in 2022. She made the transition from public to academic libraries in March of 2023 when she accepted the position of Library Director at Central Penn. Margaret lives in the PA coal region and is invested in exploring the information needs of rural communities. She is an active member of the Pennsylvania Library Association and is the 2023 Chair of the Rural & Small Library Roundtable. In her free time, Margaret enjoys volunteering with the American Red Cross and spending time with her family – which includes two parents, six siblings, two rabbits, one hamster, and several small goldfish.
