Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy centers on fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that empowers students to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners. I aim to cultivate a curiosity not only about the profession of physical therapy, but the world around us, that inspires a passion for learning. By combining classroom instruction with hands on learning experiences, I strive to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed both academically and in the ever-evolving healthcare landscape.

Bio

Matt O’Brien began his academic career at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. After graduating with a BS in sports medicine he began working at an outpatient physical therapy clinic where his interest in rehabilitation was fostered, leading him to pursue a degree in physical therapist assistant at Penn State and a MS in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania. Originally from the Coal Region of Pennsylvania, he has worked as a physical therapist assistant in various outpatient clinics in Central PA as well as a certified athletic trainer at local high schools, the most recent being Trinity High School in Camp Hill, PA. Before coming to Central Penn College, O’Brien utilized his sports performance and rehabilitation background by providing on-site physical therapy to the athletes of Penn State Harrisburg, Dickinson College, and Messiah University. He also served as an industrial athletic trainer, a unique program where clinicians perform injury treatments, ergonomic evaluations, and worksite modifications to employees of manufacturing facilities. He continues to employ his clinical skills by working as a PTA in local outpatient physical therapy clinics and as an athletic trainer, including here at Central Penn, on an as needed basis. Matt O’Brien currently lives in Enola, PA with his wife Adrienne and children Annabelle and Franklin. He enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing and fishing whenever he can, and traveling with his family to new and exciting locations.
