From Central Penn College to Career Success: Gabrielle Layne’s Story

Gabrielle Layne ’23, a Business Administration graduate of Central Penn College, has built a successful career helping people understand their finances. Today, she works from home full time as a customer service specialist for Members 1st Federal Credit Union.
“I love my job,” Gabrielle said.
In her role, she helps members solve problems and better understand their banking. She explains everything from credit scores and loan approvals to interest rate changes. Her ability to connect with people and explain complex topics clearly has made her a valuable resource for customers.
Gabrielle credits her time at Central Penn College for preparing her for the professional world. She admits that college was not always easy for her, especially when it came to writing. Still, the experience taught her important lessons that continue to help her succeed.
“The rigor of Central Penn taught me about deadlines, stepping out of my comfort zone, and the importance of a strong GPA,” she said.
Like many graduates, Gabrielle’s career path included a few twists along the way. She started with an internship at Fastenal, where she filled vending machines at job sites. The job paid well, but she quickly realized it was not the career she wanted.
“I had no passion for it,” she explained.
After attending a career fair, Gabrielle applied for a job at a local Navy base. She was able to secure the position, but at a lower pay grade. The experience was difficult and helped her realize that she needed to find a better fit.
That fit came when she joined Members 1st Federal Credit Union.
Today, Gabrielle enjoys helping people and solving problems every day. She believes her personality plays a big role in her success.
“Being a people person gets you a lot of places in the workplace,” she said.
She also encourages students and job seekers not to compare themselves to others and to keep searching until they find the right opportunity.
“Try it and if you don’t like it, leave,” she advised.
For Gabrielle, the education and real world preparation she received at Central Penn College helped her build the confidence and skills she needed to find the career that fits her best.
