Central Penn College Prepares Students for In-Demand Healthcare Careers

Central Penn College Healthcare Education

At Central Penn College, student success is not defined by a single moment. It is built through hard work, support, and real-world training that prepares graduates for meaningful careers in healthcare.

From Dental Assisting to Surgical Technology, students are stepping into careers that are in high demand. These are careers that require skill, compassion, and confidence. Central Penn College focuses on developing all three.

A Hands-On Approach to Learning

Healthcare students at Central Penn College do more than study textbooks. They learn how to think on their feet, communicate with patients, and stay calm in fast-paced environments.

Faculty play a major role in that success. As Dental Assisting student Lauren Schumber shared, “They did not just teach. They invested in us.” That investment shows in the way students are prepared for real clinical settings. Instructors teach with passion and purpose while helping students build both technical and people skills.

Students also learn how to handle real-life situations. Schumber added, “They taught us how to reassure patients and keep calm when the pace is fast.” These are the skills that turn graduates into professionals who are ready for the workforce on day one.

Real Stories of Determination

Central Penn students come from all walks of life, and their stories reflect resilience and determination.

Charlotte Smith, a Surgical Technology student, returned to school at age 40 while raising a young child and working full time. She refused to settle and pushed herself to succeed. Tear Quoya Lopez, a Dental Assisting student and mother of six, changed careers to pursue a future in dental care and now has plans to continue her education even further.

Students quickly learn that success requires sacrifice. Physical Therapy Assistant student Lydia Koser said, “You have to sacrifice short-term pleasure for long-term success.” She added, “If it’s hard, it’s supposed to be.”

Even with the challenges, students remain grateful for the journey. “I am thankful for both the good and the bad,” Koser said, reflecting on the growth that comes with perseverance.

Programs That Lead to Careers

Healthcare is one of the fastest-growing fields in the country, and Central Penn College offers programs designed to meet that demand.

Students can pursue careers in:

  • Dental Assisting
  • Expanded Functions Dental Assisting (EFDA)
  • Medical Assisting
  • Phlebotomy
  • Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Physical Therapy Assistant
  • Surgical Technology
  • Medical Office, Billing and Coding

These programs prepare students for real jobs in real healthcare settings. Many graduates begin working in the field quickly, and some secure positions even before completing their program.

Nicole Verbecken, a Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy graduate now working in the field, shared, “I’ve learned so much. I’ve gained so much confidence. The faculty has been amazing.”

Jenna Heckart, who transferred from a top-ranked university, said she was surprised by the level of support she found at Central Penn, something she had not experienced before.

Confidence That Lasts a Lifetime

A common theme among healthcare graduates is confidence. Many students begin unsure of their abilities, but through hands-on learning and strong support, they grow into capable professionals.

Occupational Therapy Assistant student Rylee Koser described her field simply: “OT is empowerment,” explaining how professionals tailor care to each patient’s goals. She discovered her passion after just one hour of exposure and never looked back, even after realizing the program would challenge her. “The accelerated program is no joke,” she said.

Healthcare professionals must also be ready for anything. Students are trained to think ahead, stay organized, and adapt quickly. In Surgical Technology, that can mean anticipating a surgeon’s needs before they are even spoken.

Education That Changes Lives

Healthcare careers offer more than job stability. They offer purpose. Each day brings new challenges and new opportunities to help others.

Dr. Krista Wolfe reinforced that impact, telling students, “You will always have a job in health care.” She reminded them that no two days in the field are ever the same.

Professor Anne Bizup emphasized the responsibility that comes with that opportunity, explaining that healthcare professionals are called “to care, to advocate, and to lead.”

Dr. Brant Ellsworth reflected on the bigger picture of education, saying, “Education will change your life.” His message highlighted the lasting power of learning and the confidence it can build.

At Central Penn College, students gain more than a degree. They gain the skills, confidence, and mindset needed to succeed in a growing industry. They leave ready to make an impact in their communities and in the lives of their patients.

For many, the journey is not easy. But as these students show, success comes from pushing forward, even when it is hard. And at Central Penn, students never have to do it alone.
