Central Penn College Communications Graduate Thrives in Government Career

Molly Peters Corporate Communications graduate

When Molly Peters graduated from Central Penn College in 2024 with a degree in Corporate Communications, she hoped to find a job where she could use her writing and media skills every day. Today, she is doing exactly that.

Molly works as a communications specialist for five elected state representatives in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. In her role, she plans press conferences, writes press releases, responds to media requests, and shares important news about legislation, grants, and community programs with the public.

“I love my job,” Molly says.

Her path to this role was not always clear. After graduating, Molly briefly worked as a reporter for her hometown newspaper and also spent time tending bar while continuing her job search. Like many recent graduates, she sometimes struggled with imposter syndrome and felt nervous during interviews.

But Molly’s experiences at Central Penn helped her build the skills and confidence she needed to succeed.

While she was a student, Molly worked as a reporter for Knightly News and served as a broadcaster during Central Penn baseball games. These experiences helped her sharpen her writing, speaking, and storytelling skills. They also helped her build a strong portfolio, something she says was one of the most valuable lessons she learned from her professors.

Molly also gained real world experience through internships, including one with U.S. Senator Bob Casey. During her job search, she applied to a wide range of opportunities, from the Philadelphia Phillies to Urban Outfitters and positions in government and politics.

For one application to the Phillies, she even customized her resume with baseball shaped bullet points. The team staff noticed the creative touch and told her it definitely stood out.

Today, Molly encourages current Central Penn College students to build strong relationships with their professors, advisors, and internship supervisors.

“Just sell yourself,” she says.

She also reminds students to highlight what they learned from every job they have had and to ask thoughtful questions during interviews. Those connections and conversations can make a big difference.

Molly is considering returning to school for her master’s degree. For now, she is focused on making an impact through her work and using the skills she developed at Central Penn College every day.
